I am working on dropping my engine for a rebuild and have opened the compartment inside the vehicle in the floor behind the middle of the front seats. My coupler doesn't look like anything in Dempsey's books.

Assume this must be separated prior to my dropping the engine so no chance of bending the shaft. If so what is the right way to do it.

This is a G50 transmission coupler, I think Wayne's books are all 915 transmissions....

And yes, you need to unbolt. Good news is that the alignment process for a 915 is a pain on both ends of the spinal cord, G50 from what I can tell is straight bolt on.

Unbolt it by the trans shifter
13mm swivel socket, come in from drivers side. Bolt is special threads if you look close.
Once removed, pull the shifter unit free and into the tunnel . If you rest the trans on the connector piece, it's a couple hundred in replacement parts.
