1981 911SC alternator replacement
Sorry if this has been discussed, but I have searched endlessly with not the result I need. My old alternator is a Marchal (see photo) and I received a Bosch replacement alternator (see photo). My question is can I use the Bosch? and if so, where do the wires go on the Bosch (there are less bolt terminals on the Bosch and no spade)
Thanks in advance for any help. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1425173588.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1425173602.jpg |

It's an update to the 81 alternator (Verlo) that uses the on board voltage regulator. You will have a black wire left over on your. Harness, tape it off and you can remove the VR from the control panel.

Thanks to all. I will give it a shot.

Capped off black wire that went to the "brushes." attached 3 brown wire cluster on negative, 2 red wire cluster on positive, blue wire to 61 and grounded big brown wire to engine. Disconnected external voltage regulator and protected the wire harness. Had to make some serious modifications to the air duct, but got it to fit. Re-assembled everything, started up car and went for a drive. Battery is 12.6 volts while car is off and high 13 volts at idle. I think it worked. I guess if I go for a longer drive and it either catches fire or conks out, I will know I did something wrong. Thanks to all for your help, not only on this issue but on others I have had before. This forum is like having 20 of my buddies sitting in my garage telling me what to do and what not to do, except I don't have to listen to their insults nor do I have to buy them beer. :)
