pulled head studs on my 2.7
 

So I have a 74 911 with all the signs of pulled head studs. It was making a "phuff-phuff-phuff" under acceleration before I pulled the motor. The motor has/had good oil pressure and has okay power even with the loose head.
It's now stripped down to a long block w/cams still on. When I pulled the valve covers three head nuts were floating around loose in there. The head studs were/are still intact and I was able to put the nuts back on and tighten them a little bit.

My question is, do I pull the heads, p's & c's and take out the head studs and install dilavar head studs? Or is there a way I can install inserts with out splitting the case?

You can try torquing up the nuts to 25 ft/lbs. They will most likely continue to pull out of the case. No matter what studs you use, you will need to use thread repair inserts. Maybe you could find a way to do the inserts without splitting the case. It will be difficult to make sure no debris falls into the case.

Splitting the case means probably thousands of dollars in machine work to align bore and/or buy oversized bearings (unobtainium).

These cars are going up in value so, a proper repair would maintain it's value.

Take it apart and do it right! Case savers and Supertec head studs will make it as bulletproof as possible.
