break in oil change for fresh 930
 

I've read the various break in procedures and oils. My question is after the initial 20 min. @ 2,000 rpm with break in oil what oil do you switch to for the next 100-200 mi. of driving. How many miles using what mineral or synthetic oil and weight until I switch to the usual Swepco 20-50.

I am about to embark on the same here shortly. Fingers crossed for August..I am just going to use 20w 50 valvoline racing oil since it is high in Zinc.

20w 50. The turbo's bearing housing get's insanely hot so I think full synthetic oil is best for it. Especially after shutdown when oil flow stops.

I wouldn't switch to synthetic until I was pretty sure that the rings are seated. The initial 20 minutes at 2,000 is just to break in a new cam and rocker arms.

What do you use after the break in and before the synthetic, and for how many miles?

A good quality conventional oil with a bottle of Lucas engine break in additive to top it off.

I like synthetic oil too, but I wouldn't be in a big rush to switch over to a full synthetic oil until I had done lots of load and unload cycles on the engine and put some miles on it. Me, for the first couple of thousand miles I would use a quality, high ZDDP non-synthetic oil. There is high ZDDP oil in both 15w-50 and 20w-50 so you don't have to run straight 30 weight like some of the break in oil comes.
