Great info guys! Really appreciate it. I also heard from a local mechanic that putting silicone on the engine seals is also not the best idea?

Use the list in this thread for sealant questions (the updated list on page 15 is the most current).

It worked great for me.
Honestly, it's a little strange getting under my car now and seeing a completely dry engine.

The biggest mistake that a rookie engine builder can make is "too many minds".
Simply put, advise from too many sources can quickly change to a clutter of noise.

How about forgetting to tightten the drain plug when rebuilding the engine and having the engine seize when the loose drain plug falls out!

I'm glad to say it wasn't me - a family friend did that to his freshly rebuilt (356) Carrera 2.0 :(

The sting never goes away. I've contemplated many times pulling it down again to reseal it right.

Is there a thread lubrication, thread locker, anti-seize use thread somewhere? I've seen the complete engine sealant thread.

Has someone cataloged what to use on each and every threaded fastener?

Laughed so much that I hat to lie down on the floor... - Thanks.
Have done exactly the same, and can laugh about it now.

Thanks - Cheers - Olsen911/Tommy Olsen.
