Removing heat exchangers...........
If the heat exchangers are toast then use a sawzall to cut the down pipes. That will make it much easier to access the nuts. If you are trying to save the current exhaust, then penetrating oil and heat are your two best friends. Remember, you want to heat the nuts, not the studs. You might be able to heat the cylinder head enough for the entire stud to come out. The last thing you want to happen is to break a stud!

![]() I cut the pipes and am fighting with the nuts. Its been a fierce battle so far but i think im gaining the upper hand. And these nuts are to big for 11mm and too small for 12mm i guess they shrunk?

I would cut off the nuts and replace the studs. The studs have seen better days too. Its part of the slippery slope…….

Use ANTI-SEIZE on the threads when you re-install the exhaust.

Use a swivel 6 sided socket for the nuts. Heat reheat heat again. If you must use a dremel with a cutoff wheel cut slits in the nuts.

The nuts may have corroded erroded away a bit. Sounds almost like they would be snug a 7/16". I know aint metric, but they do not quite sound original size either. Good luck.
