What part does belong here

Hi everyone,

just a real short introduction:
My name is Andreas, I'm from Germany and I drive (hopefully soon again) a 1983 SC.

After replacing my cylinder studs, I'm about to put the engine & transmission back in the car. At this point, I'm wondering what part or cable is fixed to the hole in the fan shroud in the attached picture. I don't like the idea of leaving that hole open, but I just can't remember what it's used for.

I documented the whole disassembly process with photos but I missed that one...

Cheers

Andreas

Hi there Andreas, from what I can tell, there should be a fitting there for an air hose to go to the charcoal canister for the evaporative fuel recovery system (canister on the passengers side of the engine compartment).

I have looked around for a diagram that shows it, but can't find one...

Mine was missing the same hose as well....

Thanks!

I don't remember any air hose in that area and it looks like I have no hoses left to assemble either (besides the heating hoses). Maybe someone is able to post a picture of his engine with that hose in place?

Dennis,

You are correct. My '78 SC USA model has a tube installed at that spot on the Fiberglas shroud and connected to the carbon canister. I removed the carbon canister when I converted ithe car to a track car. But the tube is still there. If I could find the picture of the shroud with the tube, I will post it.

Picture of the shroud........

The car is a '78 USA model. The tube is covered with aluminum foil.

Thanks guys, this was really helpful. I double checked and I'm certain now that there never was a tube on my '83. I will close the hole.

Andreas
