40IDA 3C weber rebuild questions
 

Hi everyone,

New to the forum and recently new to the Porsche world. I just picked up a 1968 911T with a 72 911T 2.4 motor in it. The car has been sitting for almost 6 years and the fuel definitely stinks like varnish so I am thinking I will need to do a full fuel system flush. First of all which of the kits should I buy to rebuild the weber 40IDA 3C carbs which are on the car? And what else should I expect to need to replace given the age of the fuel in the car?

I don't think there is much choice in rebuild kits. Porsche 911 (1965-1973) - Carburetors - Page 2 These will work.

You should replace every rubber fuel hose on the car.

Probably the brake hoses as well, but that is another story.

I notice there are 3 available kits priced from 60-90$. Is there any reason I should choose one over the other besides the obvious cost difference?

Good question. I was under the impression that they were all made by the same manufacture? They all seem to have the needles and seats.

Maybe an expert, like Paul (1quickS) will chime in.

edit: Last year I bought the $75 kit, and don't remember that they had the $60 kit in Pelican's catalog at that time. I had no problems with that kit.

The quality of the gaskets and the fit of some of the sealing washers varies quite significantly between the different suppliers but they are all a bit poor. so we now make all our own gaskets and buy sealing washers from Wurth and a couple of other suppliers.

Needle valve quality varies and I now buy them from a supplier in Germany as separate parts as we have had a number of new valves which stuck closed after a few minutes use.

We have pump diaphragms manufactured from new ethanol resistant Contiflex material and have all of the springs manufactured locally.

We have also made new studs for the air filter housings and top covers.
