Swivel Foot Lash Adjusters
I have been looking at the differences between the traditional 'Elephants' Foot with a swivel and the 906/RSR adjustment method to see which is better.
It seems that there is a difference in the way that the manner in which the end of the rocker sweeps across the face of the valve and the way the end scrubs sideways. If I have understood the geometry correctly the Elephants Foot reduces the potential for wear on the tip of the valve but can increase the side load on the valve guide. The use of a lash cap on the RSR arrangement will potentially increase wear depending on tip radius but could reduce the load on the guides. I have no experience on the type of wear or the frequency needed to keep the 906 Style rockers properly adjusted and would be keen to learn more from anyone that uses this set up. I am not entirely sure yet and we are trying to produce a model to accurately look at the motion.
I think an Elephant's foot converts all of the sweep displacement to scrub and this works out to around 1.25mm in the case of the 911's adjuster. |
