1973 911T - Engine Rebuild
OK. Just planning the restoration on our 911T with a wide body kit added.
We bought the car as-is, and the engine and transmission were already pulled. As it turns out, the engine number had been ground off. Hmmmmm. However, the engine type was still visible as a 911/01. This makes it a 1970/71 911E @ 155 hp. Definitely not the original, and definitely ripe for a rebuild. Question is, what can/should we do to this baby to get some more muscle to the wheels? We are not looking at racing performance, but street power is a wonderful thing. Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks! Robin |
I would sell the 911/01 engine and use the money to buy a rebuildable 3.0 SC core. Rebuild ithe engine with upgraded cams, pistons and carbs.

I agree with Tom on selling the engine. An E engine should bring decent money. I would opt for a later 3.2 engine though. I put an '86 in mine and found the torque along with the Motronic ignition to be better than the 3.0l with CIS or carbs.
