Magnesium case with turbo

Hi,
question ?
Should I install case savers ?

The engine is rebuild, I think in 2007, with new coated Dilavar head studs(all of them), BUT NO case savers.

All head studs checked, looks new, clamped full force to the case (cannot lose any of them with two nuts tighten together opposite end of case (and I do not have spaghetti armshttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...eys/face63.gif)).

Will it be necessary to install, also the engine will run forced induction when finished.
BTW, if, it is going to Keensert
Regards

I would be a bit leery of the overhaul in 2007 that didn't include case savers. I'll let an expert weigh in here as there are a lot of things going on with mag cases. A little more info would be helpful. There were improvements to the mag cases made over several years. The "7R" case is generally considered the best. Do you know which case you have? Do you have any info on the rebuild?

All magnesium cases NEED Case Savers,....not Timeserts, but Case Savers as the thread pitch is far different and these provide much better thread security.

I will also tell you that magnesium-cased engines are a poor candidate for any forced-induction applications. An aluminum case, either early sand-cast, 3.0/3.2, or 3.3 cases are much much better and FAR more reliable.

Thanks for the replies. The case is an 7R case. I lost the documentation that came with the car and the rebuild :-( .

I know a mag case NOT is the first choice when going turbo. But its all about the money, and I do not have 15-20k to buy another engine.

This project started because of big time oil leak. I started collecting parts in 2009 and missing only about 3k of parts to complete.

Case savers it is then.

I want to see some failure specs on mag vs alu cases in F/I situations that don't involved running the car on a track.
