Places to find BUILT 911's
 

My question: Is there a good source for finding built 911's? I watch eBay, but they seem to be far and few between.

Disclaimer: I used the search engine in this forum using "FS" and "For Sale" and the posts became 10 years old really quickly, so it doesn't appear this is a question that's asked over and over again...

I'm looking at buying a SC 3.0 or 3.2 as my daily driver. It will be my fourth Porsche. I currently have a 993TT, that I love to drive on sunny days (78,000 miles), but want a 911 I can take care of and drive daily for many years.

I am considering the slope of building the engine, so it is a fun, lively, sleeper. Performance and reliability are my goals.

I'm not going to be able to do the work myself, so is it more economical to buy a nicely sorted rebuilt 911 as opposed to having the work done?

Any suggestions on where to look?

I would look in Panorama's classifieds. The cars on there are enthusiast owned, a good portion of the ads seem to try to disclose the true condition of the car. If you come across a "rebuilt " car somewhere, I have learned that it is super important to find out WHO rebuilt it and what did they do.

Thanks Henry. I should clarify, I meant to type rebuilt instead of ebuilt, but I should really say BUILT. There are so many purists these days, that shy away from anything but stock. I'm hoping to find a built 911 that someone is selling, where it's good for both parties. I thought this might be a place where someone is moving onto another project.

When you combine, does someone just ship their car to you? What is the recommended build going from a stock 3.0 utilizing the original engine and keeping the car drivable on a daily basis?

Do your self a MAJOR, MAJOR favor buy your engine from a professional engine building shop, there are many out there. If you buy, like I did from a home garage shop there is a very high probability that you will be very, very sorry. I am many, many thousands of $ into making the engine I purchased right. You may save a few bucks up front, but you will pay many bucks on the back side with little recourse.
