3.8 cayman
Although most of the is forum is dedicated to aircooled motors, here is a change of pace!
3.8 conversion on a 987.1 Cayman S. LN engineering sleeves, JE pistons, Schrick cams, IPD intake plenum, ECU tune and complete exhaust including catless headers... Here is where it is at so far! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1452317385.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1452317403.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1452317428.jpg And the reason it came apart in the first place... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1452317461.jpg Cheers |
unhappy looking pistons...

The scoring of the bores and pistons is becoming more and more common on M96/97 engines. The current theory is that the piston expands quicker than the block during a cold start and their is not enough clearance to accommodate this...

And what are the symptoms?

You will see increased oil consumption and begin to hear a ticking sound similar to a failing lifter. The ticking and oil consumption will get worse as the scoring continues to develop.

How did this build turn out? I'm specing out a very similar 3.8 conversion and was considering Schrick cams. Finding feedback or performance results on these cams by anyone has proven hard to come by. What HP/TQ did you get, swap in all new lifters, anything else?
Any feedback greatly appreciated. |
