cylinder size matching query

I have a set of 5 new P/Cs, and have sourced thru EBS Racing the possibility of picking up a 6th. The group height can be matched but I have a couple of other queries ;
Does the cylinder size need to match?
And presumably it would pay to try and get as close a match in piston group weight - using the +/- symbols on the bottom of the pistons. Presumably if we can't get a group weight match, I should be shooting for a heavier group weight if possible (to reduce down later).
Thanks
Alan

When sourcing a single P&C pair it is important to match the new piston weight in grams to your other five pistons. You also want to match the cylinder height (or height group) to your other cylinders. Finally you want to make sure the piston to cylinder clearance of your new pair is acceptably small.

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the reply. I can get a group height match and I certainly intend to get a match in weight, one way or other. But I note the cylinders are also grouped in size (Diameter) - is it necessary as well as Gp height and piston weight, to match the cylinder size - or can I have a mix of say 5 size 0 and 1 size 1?
regards
Alan

With used pistons and cylinders it is necessary to measure the piston and cylinder bore diameters because of wear on each. The diameter size groups stamped at the factory are not as meaningful on used parts.

Hi Tom,
These are all new.

If you are buying new, then the diameter group of the piston should match the diameter group of the corresponding cylinder. You can have variation between the piston cylinder pairs (ie. you can have (5) group 0 pairs and (1) group 1 pair). The small difference in size group between cylinders will be insignificant.

OK, great. Thanks Tom. Appreciate your input.

Interestingly, the new P&C's are one group height (6) and one group weight, only.
Simplifies things a bit. Unless you have gp5 cylinders.

911 Vintage Parts has nearly 1000 pistons and cylinders in stock.
They also stock reconditioned cylinders. Your change of matching you set are pretty high.

Whoo - wish my shed looked like that. Thanks Henry - EBS Racing has new ones they sell individual also. Was trying to match 5 other new ones. Looks like we are in luck.
