2.2 E engine rebuild question...
I need to bore out the standard size cylinders on a 2.2 E engine that I am rebuilding...what are the options for repair sized pistons? What is typically done?
Source for the replacement pistons? Thanks much! |
Check with EBS, engine builder supply,in Nevada.

X2 EBS. Higher compression pistons is a nice upgrade

85mm JEs. I'm assuming 2.2E cylinders are birals?

bgyglfr,
Excuse my ignorance but what do you mean by "birals"? |

Yes. Biral cylinders came stock on a 2.2E. They are good candidates for boring and using JE pistons. You can order JEs to your specifications.

Once bored, you can have nickel-silicon plating (Mahle's Nikasil) added to your cylinder bores. Maybe someone who knows more can wade in but I don't think it adds very much at all to the tolerances and provides that extra level of protection. I had Supertec add nickel-silicon plating to my new brial cylinders. I think they contract it out so maybe contact Henry Schmidt for more info.

US chrome does it. I want to say it was either $75 or $90 per cylinder. I just remember when paired with a set of JEs, it was a very reasonable.
