2.4, JE 9.5 Pistons in Mahle birals reworked to 85mm by EBS. Mod Solex cams by Dougherty, rebuilt 40 IDA's. Heads rebuilt by Cgar with intakes ported to 36mm. Case work by Cgar and Ollies, rods and tensioner arms by Henry at Supertech.
This is a great motor - torquey and responsive and very entertaining in my street 914-6 ![]() Special thanks to EBS who helped me work through some difficulties during break in, see below. They went ton's of extra miles to help me without a complaint and no extra charges. Break in - somewhere between a 20 minute cam run in at 2000 rpm and carb and timing set up, I glazed the cylinders and could not get the rings to seat. If you are contemplating a 20 minute break in, do something to control the high temps that can occur if you just let the car sit - rig cooling fans or do it in 7 minute segments or do it in second gear around in circles or something to mitigate high temps. Or maybe don't do it at all...I believe things will seal up and wear in fine by just running the car. This was my first build. We have some really great vendors out there. Trust and listen to them and this ain't rocket science. It was ultimately fun and a learning experience and rewarding. Go DIY. ![]() Last edited by gereed75; 04-21-2016 at 09:15 AM.. |

I did basically the same build (with MFI). Rings will seal. Back pressure is your friend. Downshifts and long down hill runs using the engine to slow you helps. Keep an eye on fuel mixture. Those cams and CR will make it run leaner than before. Detonation in your enemy. Super unleaded only!

I have a similar engine and I don't think you should have had any high temperature
problems running in the garage at 2K rpm. In my case, I had carbs and timing already really close from before, though. This is with a 914 with no extra cooler.
