Broken head studs galore.....

Hello PP experts-

Based on the lengths in the pic below, will I have enough material to get these damn Dilivars out? Or will I be drilling?

These are just lowers.... Motor is a 78 3.0....still in the car...

On the ones over 5" no. Maybe try the weld a nut method.

Broken head studs.......

If you have 5" or less, there would be ample exposed stud on the crankcase you could use to hold or grab during extraction. Maybe max. of 5.25" could still leave something to grab on. The total length the Dilavar head stud is about 6.5" and the threaded section that goes to the crankcase is about 1". Anything close to 5.5" would have nothing to grab on and most like the remnant stud is flush to the crankcase outer surface.

Remove the cylinder cooling tin to have a good look on what is left. Keep us posted.

One thing for sure you won't be drilling.

You don't have to worry about the tops. You do have to worry about the longer ones, they will get into your wallet big time.
