Engine stand

I am in the info gathering, parts price comparison stage of a 79 911 3.0 rebuild

Thinking that this will probably be my only Porsche engine adventure.

Question is. If I buy the 300.00 engine stand offered for sale here, would it be easy/difficult to sell the used engine stand when I am done?

what would be a fair sell price

Thanks Gents

I think your referring to the engine yoke. Often referred to as p201. I currently have a 4 arm Baum unit and just bought a 5 arm Baum engine yoke.
The 4 arm came out years ago when the engine was say 350 lbs. Now with something like the 964 / 993 engines, I rather upgrade to the latest 5 arm Baum units.
Back to your question, quality tools are always in demand. Just surf the classified and you will notice they usually don't last long. Good luck with build.

Yes correct the P201 yoke

Kind of what I was thinking...thought I'd ask here first.

i think you will have no problem selling it, someone will always want it. It will work for a gearbox too. Definatly get the P201 (everyone will always pay for quality), i use it with a sealey 550kg stand in a U shaped configuration not the T shaped one which can fall over. The sealey 550kg is a UK brand, the yoke is 60mm

Question: When using 4, 5 ,8,9, 11 arm engine stands is there any upgrade of the two small transmission bolts holding the engine from peril? I just redid my engine and the 4 arm stand was very up to the job. But it was a Mg 2 liter...

If you got the real engine yoke (P201), it's the lip that hold the engine and the 2 nuts only hold the ring tight to the engine flange.

Yep the lip fit tight against the engine ridge. Two bolts... Nerve wracking.

Yes, I had the engine on the wall for 3 months but I put my lift table under it when I was not working on it.

I've know of an individual that stores his spare 993 vram hooked up to a Baum on a stand..so he can move it around the garage for the past 4 years.

+1 on the P201 Yoke....then build or buy a quality engine stand like this. Easily holds a 930 turbo, a copy from Jerry Woods shop.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1462942729.jpg

5 arm engine yoke

Outsider,

I have a 5 arm engine yoke that has been used twice that I would sell. It was used once to rebuild a 993 engine and once for a 3.0 rebuild. Send me a PM and we can discuss terms!

Thks,

Fred Cook

For max stability, the engine stand should have 4 legs/wheels.
