New Mahle P&C....clean? Check?
Hi all,
My new Mahle P&C have arrived, yay! 9.8 Euro 3.0ltr. What is the accepted wisdom with regards installation? Should I remove the Pistons, clean cylinders and reassemble, or leave well alone? Many thanks. |
so they came assembled with rings in them ready to go ?

You want to know where the ring gaps are. They are together new for shipment. Take them apart, clean them, and put them back together correctly with lube of choice.
Good luck with them. |
Yes agreed. So have checked them and they were all spotlessly clean and ring gaps identical!
Although all at top of spec with top and middle ring at 0.4mm |
I put brand new 3.3 Mahle pistons and cylinders from a sealed box in mine too. When I pushed the new pistons out of the cylinders the ring gaps were all lined up in a row. That's the worst position possible for running the motor.
I can only guess they were in there that way because it's easier to install them with the ring gaps lined up with whatever tool they use. I've posted this ring gap position diagram before but here it is again if it's of help. It's from the factory manual. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1463094517.jpg |
Aware of that, even though they end up anywhere they like....
