M64 996TT engine build. Looking for advise/tips please!
I managed to lift the heads on my 2001 911 Turbo running K24 billet turbos and apparently hydrolocked my engine, shattering my bottom end. I tore the car all apart and have pics posted on 6speedonline, where I usually post. You can see that thread here if you would like: Blown motor pics. - 6SpeedOnline - Porsche Forum and Luxury Car Resource
Anyways, I have decided to build an engine myself and I have collected all of the parts to do this. I am posting here because it appears that there are some good experienced builders on here and I am looking for any advise that I can get. I have built a number of V8's and Japanese motorcycle engines in the past, so I do have some experience, but every engine is different and unique. Low mileage parts were readily available from performance enthusiasts on 6speed who had upgraded. My setup will be as follows: M64 cases from a 2003 Turbo. Drilled and tapped for 12mm ARP studs. Stock crank from a 2002 GT2 10k miles. Balanced and micropolished. Pauter connecting rods for 993/996 cars. 997 pistons and liners from a 2007 car with 20k miles on them. 9.0-1 compression. Heads from my 2001 motor cleaned up with a light port and polish. 997 lifters. Stock oil pump. Stock cams. New bearings/seals/chains. Cometic head gaskets. Stock IMS. bbi underdrive pulley. k24/18g billet hybrid turbos. My cases are still at the shop getting drilled and tapped for the big 12mm studs, so I will be starting in a few weeks. I will post up once I get started. I am having a shop set my cams for me once the heads are installed. Any advise or criticism you would like to dish out would be greatly appreciated. A few builders have given me some advice already: Be careful not to cut or chip the seals on the oil galleys that go over the case bolts, slip them over the threads with a pen cap. Do not reuse the removed wrist pin clips, replace. I am studying the manual and should have a good grasp on building the engine as I have also taken it apart myself. Thanks for any help! |
