Welding cylinder heads
First can a cylinder head be welded? and if so how can do this work and machine the head.
I have a race motor with 5 good head but the 6th ones deck needs to be welded and machines, it's 1mm off from the other cylinders. thanks Scott |

Have the others cut to match.

Or see if Cometic can make you a custom base gasket for the short cylinder.

I have welded bad spots on heads before but never a complete sealing surface, I have seen it done but normally you would machine all 6 together afterwards to make sure they are all the exact height. What do your good ones measure? Might be better off with a good used head?

Sorry, can't read, thought you were talking about cylinders, not heads. You mean the heads are ported?

We weld the VW type 4 heads, turn new AMC 1.8 heads into 2.0 914 heads, repair cracks.
With an excellent welder and machinist anything is possible with an aluminum head. If you're on the east coast I'd talk to Len Hoffman at HAM.
