Safe rod cap removal

I'm starting out my build and maybe I am being a little too cautious.

I'm getting ready to use the plastigauge method to check my crank/rod clearance. The problem is my machine shop used the arp rod bolts when they resized the big end of the rods. And I cannot separate the rod cap from the rod unless I were to use a rubber mallet to tap the rod cap off.

So how can I possibly get an accurate measurement and not damage anything with these rod bolts fitting so tightly? Is it ok to tap them off with a rubber mallet?

Thanks so much,
Rookie Rich

Small brass hammer........

Rich,

After the ARP stretch bolts were torqued, they would sit tight and snug even after the nut removal. I use a small brass hammer to slide the bolts loose. A couple of light taps and they get loosen up.

Make sure that there are some nuts (maybe not the ones you will use for final assembly) are on the ends of the bolts and tap the bolts back (striking the nuts not the bolts) as described above.
Hope I am not being Captain Obvious here!
