Rod Bushing Question
 

I have two questions on rod bushings.

1. My machinist didn't do such a great job on drilling the oil passage holes on one of the rods. See below.

Do I...leave it, drill it myself, or take it back.

2. Are JE piston wrist pins the same size as the stock ones for KS Pistons. I had the bushings sized to the existing pin and have now decided to change to JE pistons. Do I have to have them resized or will they fit.

Use a brass wire brush to clean out the holes. You should carefully clean your rods before assembly anyway.

The JE piston pins in my 3,0 build were the same size as the old Mahles. At any rate you will have to check, or double check the fit of your new ones before your final assembly.

The wrist pins rely on splashed oil for lubrication and that restriction would bother me. Maybe a machinist could chime in here with concerns but I think you could gently drill that the rest of the way and de-burr the opening. Or, take it back and have it done to your satisfaction.

I think I will drill out myself. Should not be too difficult if I start with a small bit and work my way up.

I spoke to EBS about the pins. They say the size is the same so I should be good.

fit a wooden dowel in the rod end then drill the hole keeps it clean drilling into something.

Easier than expected. Just used a 1/8" drill bit by hand to open up the hole. Then used my deburring tool to open it up to the max hole size. Worked well. Thanks.
