Steam Driver Nice Barn Find!!
|
Hi again Tom.
Yes, relieving the ports in the SC head would definitely be possible; plenty of material there for that. If I was working with heads not installed, etc. I would probably go that route. ' matter of fact, one of our fabricators, an old hot rod guy, says he can do it with the heads installed and not get any filings in the engine. Not a risk I want to take. This idea about using the 964 intake didn't come about until the long block was reassembled. Also this route leaves the heads themselves stock. I don't know if that matters in the long run or not. |
Thanks, it is a really nice SC. Unfortunately the broken head stud thing has led it into being a lot more protracted project than I anticipated. Not to mention the P/O's unknown (at the time) alterations. It has been a fun trip discovering things though.

Adapt Motorsport - great fit. I ordered the small 34mm version for my 1982 3.0 - and then later had them ported to 37mm by Anchor Atlantic machine shop in southern NJ when they reworked my heads for recent engine build. Adapt makes some very nice looking - and working - components. Second photo shows their matching fuel rail. Lots of photos in my build thread in the Technical forum. Thx, Patrick

Forgive my ignorance, but what intake manifold are you using? I am asking, because I am rebuilding my 2.7 magnesium case for my 74 Carrera and I’m ditching the CIS. |
Thx. These are 964 aluminum intake halves. Porsche also offered these in plastic if you’re in search of more weight savings.
Here’s some pics and details on how I relieved the alum pieces of various cast-in brackets and such. https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/1122278-9126001675-3-0l-coupe-nc-ownership-updates-3.html |
