2.4 just rejuvenated , anemic...........
Hi all ,
Here 's my problem , I just finished to rejuvenate completly a 2.4 T with carbs , usa engine. New cylinders and pistons , Malhe , all seals new , engine starts perfectly , but is anemic and not produces any power................i'm sure i have just 40 hp........... ![]() I have a doubt concerning the setting values : could someone telling me the values to apply for a 2.4 T / 1973 ??? Thanks , Ced'

Need more information to help.
Which 2.4 engine do you have? 1973 could be 911/51 MFI early or 911/91 CIS later. What carburetors and jetting do you have. What is your fuel pressure to the carburetors? Have you checked compression and leak down values for each cylinder? Verify points gap is set. What distributor are you using, and have you made sure you have spark in correct order to each cylinder. Is battery fully charged and does alternator put out around 13.6V when running?

Camshaft timing?
Ignition timing?

My engine is a 2.4 T MFI at the base , but with carbs since a long time.
I talk about camshaft timing ; the values are between 2.4 and 2.8 normally.(confirm please , i've a doubt now) I've done it at 2.6. Cylinders and pistons brand new Malhe , all is new on this engine. Battery x 2 new. Alternator : new. I precise that this engine ran strong before rejuvenation , but oil leaks were too important .

I would vote 1 can is 180 degrees off or ignition wires wrong order

When it runs, does it run smoothly or very rough? This will help to narrow in on the root cause.
My guess is ignition timing too far retarded. Check you are at ~5 degrees BTDC at idle with the vacuum canister disconnected. Then verify that the distributor is advancing as you increase rpm. Total advance should be ~36deg at 6,000rpm.

The car runs smoothly , absolutly not nervous , poor acceleration.

I'm going to check all that listed , and will let you know the results.
Many thanks mates , Ced'

Carbs achieving full throttle? Timing too retarded?

Check the exhaust, spray with windex looking for a cold pipe or pipes.
I'm thinking you have a cam 180 out so you're only running on one side. You ll have 3 pipes on one side cold. Move the distributor 180 and the other side, the cold side will run. Bruce |

Bruce, that would certainly make for an anemic running engine, but wouldn't it be running rather rough? My thinking is that if the cam on one bank is 180 out then the spark is essentially firing on the exhaust not compression stroke. This means that 3 cylinders are not generating power at all. Seems that would result in very obvious rough running.
Ced' - what do your spark plugs look like? Do all appear to be firing? White / chocolate / black color? Wet / dry?

It runs poorly , no power , but runs !!!
Acceleration is near zero , top speed around 120 km/h , but it runs. Tomorrow , i'll change that and hope i'll find again my six cylinders. A pic to thank you mates , Regards , Ced' ![]()

Its still balanced.
I one forgot to connect the spark plugs on 4-6, was surprised how smooth it ran...

Well, one time in early 80s I went to lunch while setting cam timing and that is what I wound up with. The proof was turning the distributor 180 out and lit off the other side.
Don't even turn the radio on until timing is set. Bruce |

I nearly did the same when I changed cams a few years ago, but caught it.
But I have been curious on how it would have performed. Since I have a wasted spark set up it would have fired 1 and 4 at the same time, then 3 and 6 etc.
