79 930- Unusual vacuum leak ?
Was chasing down an elevated idle on my '79 930. A smoker test immediately showed a worn throttle body shaft as the culprit.
Has anyone else experienced a similar issue ....is this a normal wear item? I can't seem to find much information anyware on rebuilding the throttle body shaft / butterfly ...which leads me to assume this is not usual. ![]() |

Maybe more info would help?
Maybe the throttle body is suppose to leak a little? there is no other vacuum leak as per smoke test - and aux air bypass valve is functioning- took it out, heated it and cooled it. The 12v plug is getting power and is grounded ....then what ?
1) tight linkage- maybe sticking . I tried giving more play... 2) idle speed screw ( doubt it ) - I have it almost all the way it in 3) WUR ? no cold start problem - fires right up 1st crank 4) there is no decel valve or aux air regulator What happens is - car starts and idles nicely at 950 -1000 right away / first crank. As I drive it - idle starts to rest higher - once car is hot idle will stay around 1500-1600sometime I pull gas pedal back / pull floor at back and it falls a few hundred but it seems more coincidence than anything else. Idle is great when car is cold - and is drive able right away What I am being told -this is how these cars are.... Anybody want to share their experience ? |
