though I guess it was too much sealant for the case. it may have squirted inwards (as it did outwards) an may block the oil bores of the crank shaft (?) or other... and I've learned: one does not put selant on the inside for the crankshaft bridge |
Yes, in retrospect I agree with you: The sealant goes on more lightly than what I put down and it is not necessary in the crankshaft bearing supports. You find both pros and cons on this site, but no definitive argument that I could find. Since both Wayne's book and the factory manual show it this way, that's what I did. Now, I agree that the sealant does not provide structural rigidity to the bearings and is likely to possibly plug the oil squirters. Therefore, no sealant on those surfaces for me in the future.
