77 2.7 issue

Hi guys, I have a sick 77 2.7 at my place.

Customer/friend brought it in to me, hasn't run in 11 years.

Flushed the gas tank and dug into some wiring issues.

There was an original issue of no spark, but I noticed that Someone had the coil hard wired as well as the WUR. After giving power to the hot side of the coil, I can get the car to run (barely).

I ran it very breifly to get some EGT from the cylinders to see if I have a misfire.

I have temps in the 160 range on the 1-3 bank and no temp on the 4-6 bank.

Jumped cam timing?

Fuel distributor is jumping out at me. Bad/old varnished fuel gets everywhere, not just the tank.

Ok, I'll pull injectors to see what's coming out. but this was on ether..... so I would have expected a little temp on all

Think I'd be doing a compression/leakdown test before inflicting ether on the poor thing.

Thanks for the help gentlemen, after further talk with the owner, it became painfully obvious that the person rebuilding the engine had zero clue what they were doing and a complete tear down will be needed.

I appreciate all the help.

Check the cam timing, that's where a novice would get lost.
Everything else is just torque specs...

You hit the nail right on the head. I showed the owner a video on how to set cam timing and asked if he thought his "mechanic" had this capability and his reply was...
"definitely not"...

poor car.

I am bring this thread back up....

Engine is coming out today to check cam timing and do an over all check of things... It doesnt look good.

One question I do have is do they make a replacement plastic connector for the main wire harness coming off of the chassis? The one in the car was in pieces.

Never use ether on a 911 engine, you may as well try to start it by using a sledgehammer on a piston to spin the crank.

Beating a dead horse, leakdown is 80-90% on 4-5-6
