Hard time finding Main Bearings for my 3.0
 

I'm ready to finish my 3.0 rebuild, and I'm having a problem locating quality main bearings to assemble my engine for my 82 Targa. It seems that Pelicans only option is Glyco. I tried several dealers and its a special order from Germany with the total cost running around $1400 and a few weeks wait.
I did not anticipate this. I hear Glyco horror stories of inconsistencies.
I figure I can't be the only person having this problem, and am wondering what other people are doing for air cooled bearing sets.

We have options for main and rod bearings.

I don't want to start another Glyco thread but....

Porsche uses Glyco, but they check them?

It was a problem with some of the 3,2 rod bearings, not the 3,0 mains?

I measured my glycol main bearings and found several out of spec. I sent them off to Calico to get them spray coated and now they are about perfect.

The process of coating a bearing with dry film can only change the bearing measurements if the babbit (white metal coating) on the bearing is applied inconsistently.
During the process the bearing is blasted with low pressure using aluminum oxide media. The bearing is then cleaned, dried and sprayed with the product of choice.
Some products are then air dried, heat light dried or oven cured.
The dry film coats the bearing with .00005" to .0001" of product. Depending on the provider, the dry film is then processed. The product manufacturer generally provides a method of burnishing or light oil coating.
