Altenator stuck
Wanted to remove my altenator to clean up my fan housing but it seems stuck ! Tried to tap it out with a nylon hammer on the bolts. Can I use a drift and tap the alt itself?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1488557164.jpg

The method I use (as found here in the Forum) is:
Place a heavy towel/rug on the floor (garage floor is better). Hold your alt/stator assembly horizontal to the floor, shaft-side down (be sure all the nuts are removed). Tap the stator on the towel/floor, going "around the circle" after each tap. Watch as the alternator starts coming out. You can tap the alternator a bit if you want, but it's been unnecessary when I've done it this way. Good luck. |
Thanks for the encouragement man that sucker was tight!

I had to soak mine for a week with PB blaster. Be patient, if the bang on the floor method doesn't work at first.

Last resort: you can unscrew the Allen bolt from the fan side of the alternator.

Remember, the fan housing is far more valuable than a used alternator. |
Thanks Henry I did loosen the Allen screws then realized the alt might separate, squirted PBS blaster on it and tapped harder on the bolts with the nuts on finally it came off! Now I'm trying to decide weather to paint or just polishhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1488665490.jpg
