Is it a stain or can you feel a difference?

scuffing
Marks like that come from a motor that has sat for awhile.Dirty oil & rings getting a little rusty from moisture. Then they lit it up bringing it back to life. That motor was tight and cracked loose when they turned it over.Fred

Craig,
Feels a bit rougher. Fred, Yeah, that's probable. This is from a basket case 78 engine I'm tearing down. Here's the corresponding piston. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1491193422.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1491193422.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1491193422.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1491193422.jpg BTW what's the trick to splitting the case ? Heat ? Hours of hammering with a mallet made no difference. Or is it possible I missed one nut ? |

Case split as per Mr Dempsey's excellent book and some perseverance and choice words ! Next goal is to see if this engine's worth rebuilding or better off as parts fodder.
