964 Pulley on 3.2 Crankshaft
Hi All
Without asking “why”, would anyone have pause in adapting the center hub of a 964 pulley to a 3.2 crankshaft? TIA |

964 pulley sits on a longer nose taper on the crank. The 3.2 nose, like all earlier cranks are short.
The 964 pulley locator pin is 180 out, at 3 o'clock instead of 9 o'clock. Bruce |

won't ask why...........
but will guess! Sounds like you are trying to create a crankshaft position hub for direct fire ignition.

The center hub adapter will be fabricated without a tapered bore to accept the 3.2 straight crankshaft. Fred Nothing that complicated. All I was hoping for some input on whether the extra surface area of the taper is necessary for a lock on the shaft. Nothing theoretical (ie although it would be nice) involving Youngs modulus or coefficient of friction, but rather experience attaching a pulley + crank position hub or anything else, close in mass to the 6.4lb 964 pulley. I'm not sure, having seen pictures only, but the earlier pulley's which had a smog and a/c sheave look to have significant mass. TIA |
