2.4 rebuild for my 914

My post is along the line of slater's post earlier this month. I currently have a tired 2.4T in my 914. I have been collecting parts for an engine rebuild for the past couple of years. I currently have a set of 2.2S pistons, solex cams and a msd ignition for upgrades. I want to get the most out of my 2.4 but know there many different combination of components. I currently have a set of webers on the car but I think MFI would be the way to go? I know I would have to swap the solex cams for a set of E cams but, which ones are better the 2.2 or 2.4 cams? Also would I still be able to use the 2.2S pistons with the higher compression? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

Dave, about 6 years ago, I did the conversion you are talking about. I had a '72 2.4T engine and installed 2.2S pistons and cyl's and used 2.2E cams and MFI. There was no problem with valve clearance with this combination but you should check it just incase when you do the assembly. I probably should have had the pump rebuilt to possibly carrerra specs but I set it up to run rich and it pulled very strong. I club race a stock '70S now and the 2.4 definately made more power than my S. Unfortunately, I had a defective rod bolt/nut (OE) and spun #2 rod bearing ruining the crank. Good luck! JB
