Engine start-ups: From 12 months down to 12 hours.

The 13th engine rebuild project took me almost 12 months to get it running and fix all sorts of mechanical problems. It was a very humbling experience and that was Year 2016. This time, spring of 2017, the 14th engine on my engine test stand has a totally different outcome. The engine started and ran on the very first attempt.

Not only did it start and run, the sound of the running motor was a delight to hear. I am back into the game again!!!! From a record 12 months start-up down to 12-hours. The start-up time is the actual accumulated man-hour including installation of the engine and setting up all the accessories to run the engine. With the engine starting and running well with no abnormal noise is end of the start-up phase.

Next, is the break-in stage after installing the motor in the car. The engine owner will be advised to come and pick up his engine. And begin another engine tear down next month.

BTW, thanks to Tom Perrazano for allowing me to use and test his prototype starter bracket shown below:

Anyone thinking of building his/her own engine test stand could use this well built and appropriately well designed starter mounting gizmo.

You rebuilt and entire engine and installed in 12 hours?

Prep and start-up only.......

No. The engine was rebuilt over a period of two months. The prep and start-up was about 12 hours. The previous motor (13th.) was installed in my engine test stand and took almost 12 months to get it to run right. There were too many mechanical problems including several blunders I committed. The previous 12 motors all ran without any problem at all until I got to my 13th. engine. I am not superstitious at all and could just be a coincidence.

This last motor has given me greater satisfaction than all previous rebuilds because of what I had with the last rebuild. I was more focus during this rebuild inspite of my travel to Middle East and South America.

Only if you have CIS in your engine. CIS is so easy to start and run. No carb please.
