Frozen Exhaust Stud Removal Service

Wondering if you guys guys think that this might be a service folks might be interested in here I had to remove all 12 frozen exhaust studs from my 79 911 heads. While formulating a process to do this accurately I built a fixture & some tooling to accurately (on center) drill out the studs. Then 8mm Time -Certs were installed. So, with all this built, and my heads done, I'm thinking about offering this service for $30.00 per head, Owner pays round trip ship. What do you think?

Sounds like more than a fair price! however if the heads are off the cylinders, they are going to the machine shop for the once over. which takes care of the valve job, and fly cut if needed, and the broken exhaust studs... but if someone wants just the exhaust studs repaired $30 with the inserts is a deal

Tks Mike The reason that I ended up doing mine, The engine machinist doing my heads called me to LMK about the frozen studs. Told me that he could certainly do the stud work, at the shop rate $75.00/hr. Or I could do the studs myself, and bring the heads back to him for completion. Another option to save some $$

Show your work and establish your reputation.

Outsider, The $30 exhaust studs replacement cost per head is very attractive for people who have not done this or worry about doing it. Show some pictures of your work and establish some sort of assurance that people could trust you with their cylinder heads. In short, a good reputation is essential and it takes time to establish one. Getting the first few customers is the biggest hurdle and once people see your work and feel confident about your work, you will subsequently get more projects to do. Wish you the best. Tony

Ollies charges $80.00 minimum, that is a fair rate so $30.00 would be a deal

i need all of mine drilled out but the problem your gonna have is nobody knows anything about you. I've heard so many horror stories and I just can't afford to lose heads.or have other issues. I'm sure your a good guy and probably do good work, but without a proven track record it's hard to trust somebody especially today.

there was someone on here who used to sell a tool for this. I bought one about 10 years ago. It worked great and wasn't expensive. I used it to time sert 3 different sets of heads.

That's a nice offer but I'll probably just make a fixture and do it myself. I have a bad spine and riding in a car for 2 1/2 hours is not an option. Last time I was in Orchard Park was 1987 for a Grateful Dead show, nice area.
