My Porsche 964 rebuilding time lapse
 

Just thought I share a little time lapse video I made during the rebuilding process. It took 3 months over the winter. The car is running superb now after the rebuild. I did a lot of reading here on this forum as well as over at rennlist. Enjoy the video.

I did mine this winter after it had been sitting apart on my bar in the basement for 4 years. It feels strange to watch the time lapse and re live it.

So, what was the trick to getting the clutch fork shaft in? Looks like that took a little time. I will be doing that myself here shortly.

Out of curiosity, what setup/software did you use to film that?

I used a piece of duct tape to hold the fork and slowly aligned the tranny as close as possible. Then wiggle the shaft in slowly. Once everything is in, I used a long nose plier to pull the duct tape off. Make sure no piece of tape is tore.

It was my iPhone time lapse camera option. Imported into my pc and stitched it together with a silly song.

Oh cool! Was expecting you to say a GoPro or DSLR, I'll have a go at using that on mine, cheers!

Yep, that's what the manual shows. Just wondering any other tricks. Seemed like in the video it took a while to get it all aligned correctly. I guess it's just another one of those "fiddly" things...

I'm impressed... Wish you had a video of how you removed the engine from the car.

I'm also curious about how you reconnected the drivetrain to the car...
It shows you raising the engine into the bay.... then suddenly you are putting the bumper back on and lowering the car... what about the engine mounts, trans mounts, reconnecting everything underneath? Are you going to do all of this AFTER lowering the car or did I just miss something?

Thanks for the compliment. I honestly wasn’t trying to do a “how to” video. I put the engine and tranny back in the car while it’s up higher of course. Lining up the engine mount to the chassis was very slow and steady:). Once that’s lined up, the tranny should pretty close to the center tube. The process is reversing the steps from the shop manual on engine removal.
