2.4L 1972 T with 80000 miles

We took the motor apart other than some nasty rust on the head studs and cast iron cylinders. we are amazed that the crank and intermediate shaft bearing surfaces, look brand new and the crank is perfect.
will measure the bearings tomorrow just for posterity as we will use new.
one of the head studs pulled some threads as we removed it..
I was planning on putting it back together with new studs and bearings but that fear of the twisted case is in the back of my mind.
Questions:
1. Do all2.4L motors always need align bored? The cost does not bother me i just do not want to mess up the geometry of the case and worry that the next time the case is apart there is not much that can be done.
2. Should we put in all new case savers or just the one that has some pulled threads?
3. Does anyone know a good porsche machinist in pa/oh/nj?

machinist

There is an excellent machinist named Rich Jascic in NW NJ.201-362-8163.He is in Blairstown NJ.He has done work for me and many other shops in the area for the last 40 years.2.4T is a low stressed motor. The line bore on the mag cases tends to get a little bit of ovality. They usually just need a clean up line hone and use standard bearings.Easy job for this guy.Good luck.FRED

Align bore
Deck case
Level Spigots
Clean piston squirters
time-sert head studs
time-sert that internal stud next to the crank web

You probably won't get too far into your reassembly if you don't do at least the first three items. And, it probably won't last too long after reassemble if you don't get the last three done.

Good luck!
