safe rev range/limit

I'm currently enjoying my 3.0 that I rebuilt earlier this year. I leaned heavily on this forum for help and am pretty pleased with the results. I paired it with Triumph ITBs and an Infinity with COP. I didn't twin plug it however and I haven't fully revved it out yet as I'm only a couple hundred miles in. Its seen 5500 so far.

I'd like to set my rev limit to what is safe for the motor while allowing me to wind out all of the sweet noises and ponies that she's got available but i don't really know what that limit is with my setup.

My motor consists of:
930/52 case
2.7L 6 bolt crank and rods with Raceware bolts. Rods checked and rebushed on the little ends.
9.3:1 95mm CIS pistons in EBS recoated cylinders. Everything was quite balanced on the scales.
1983 SC cylinder heads with all new springs, valves, guides
cams were 3.2L best I could tell. Possibly SC.

Is this setup capable of 7200 rpm? Should I stick closer to 6700? What is limiting me in the setup the most?

Hi Shaun,

With your small-port SC heads and SC/Carrera cams, your engine is all done by 6K RPM.

I would set your rev limiter to 6500 RPM until you upgrade your heads and cams.

Any cams that are more aggressive than 964 ones will require different pistons for valve clearance.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Steve. If I ever have to go back inside the motor I might consider a head and cam swap and shoot for 8k rpm.
