Overheating

I had a 914-6 with a 2,0 engine rebuilt and upgraded to a 2.2 with an E cam exported to the UK,after about 30mins the needle steadily climbs up to the red then cuts out. When i took the oil filler cap off what looked like steam was coming out.Once the engine has cooled down it starts up and runs fine until it heats up again, the carbs were also rebuilt but need to be retuned as they were set for the the high altitude of Utah
Any help would be appreciated
Brian

Maybe running too lean.

Fan belt lose? Has the car been sitting long enough for a mouse to build a nest. Leave any shop towels under the shroud
???

Should be too rich if now at lower altitude...

A check of thermostat would be in order as well as belt/rags above

Grab ahold of the fan and see if it turns. If so the belt is the problem.
