What can i do with a 2.2?
Hey guys, I am a novice porsche dude.
I come from a V-8 world, so i need some help in what i can do to increase performance out of a 2.2 liter, carbed engine What i really dont want to hear is buy a bigger porsche engine and stick it in there, The engine matches the car and i would like to keep it that way is there anything you can do to Bump compression up Bigger jugs and pistons without serious machine work different cams head work fuel injection (electronic) I know exactly how to do all these things on a V-8, but have no idea on one of these porsches engines. |
If you search 2.2 engines and posts especially from Henry at Supertech ( or just search his posts) you will find a wealth of info.
Yes keep the original engine and do the upgrades that can get you up to S type performance. |
Deja vu. Lots of discussion, as mentioned, on this subject recently.
With these motors the possibilities are great, but how big is your budget? 1. Buy Wayne's "How to rebuild 911 motors" book available here. Bruce Anderson's "Porsche 911 Performance Handbook" is also a valuable reference. Spend some time learning about these motors and all their variations and possible modifications. 2. Start a spread sheet listing all the possible mods, like you listed, with their costs. Cams, compression, larger bore, stroke and port size are all possibilities. 3. You may want to consider a newer larger motor, like a 3,0 or 3,2 to swap out. Save the unmolested 2,2. |
Thanks track rash, the Bruce Anderson's "Porsche 911 Performance Handbook" is one I have not seen. I do have all of Waynes books and have read them from cover to cover. I'll have to pick that one up. Love your name by the way

Bruce's book is excellent.
What it will tell you is you can use a 2.4 crank and overbore your jugs to 86mm to make your engine a 2.5l. Pistons, cams, compression, fuel delivery can be whatever you want. I assume you are starting from a T? |

I'd check with Henry to give you realistic budget and performance numbers. I assume you still want to keep it streetable, so don't go too crazy on cams, etc.

261663. I'm not really interested in being up at 10 unless I commit to twin plug.
But I thought the +/-.5 delta was based on the change in rod, not the crank. I believe 2.4 rods would stay around the published compression but 2.2 rods would drop it a bit. Is my understanding wrong? |
