Cam housing plug installation, the large ones. How deep?
How deep do these big plugs go in? I installed them a hair deeper than the bevel on the housing. I installed the cam with a very thin smear of white lithium grease on the end of it. Put all three shims, end plate, beveled washer, sprockets big washer and bolt. I did not put the paper gasket on. It measures .017" I snugged the bolt hand tight. No chain on. I spun the cam and removed it. The cam plug had a small circular grease mark on it... This does not seem righthttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1507488404.jpg

Well, I can tell you that my old motor has the plug even with the surface of the casting. This is also what is shown in the workshop manual.
Not sure if you are going to have a problem. Seems to me you could assemble the cam including the gasket and three shims to see if you have enough clearance. |
Thanks Gordon. I had a feeling I went in too far.
Andy See you Saturday ! |
Way too far. By the way, put these plugs in AFTER the motor is assembled. That way the cams are in there and they provide a natural stop to those plugs.

Good advice! Thank you my 914 brother!
