Honing Cylinder Barrels

1973 911 Targa - My cylinder barrels have been sitting for several years removed from the engine. They got dirt dobbers nests, or something like that on them. When I cleaned them up, they all look perfect, except for two of them. You can still see and feel where these nests were. I've read that these cylinders are impregnated with some type of silicone. Is it possible to run a hone through these cylinders, or will this comprimise the silicone? I can look at my cylinders and see where they were honed before, for this engine has been rebuilt before with .10 over pistons.

It depends upon which cylinders they are. Are they magnetic? Is the inside coating magnetic if the outer shell isn't?

Alright. This is a stupid question. Do you mean that if a magnet sticks to the inside or the outside? My guess would be that the outside is magnetic, but I'll check and make sure.

What would the difference be as far as honing is concerned?
