2.4 Heads - CC Volumes
 

Slowly working toward rebuilding my 2.4 and eager to learn as much as possible along the way.

I recently CC'd 2 cylinder heads from two separate 2.4T engines. One engine with known cutting measured 66cc and the other from what i believe to be completely stock at 77cc. Is there a way to determine the amount cut based on these Volumes? The bigger picture is to determine potential interference (T to E Reground cams), and setting deck height with new JE Pistons (specs may be provided if needed) to produce around 9.5:1 CR.

You can use a large micrometer to measure and compare each head.

Most of the time the machinist will stamp the amount cut from the sealing surface on the head.

If you set your deck height correctly, you should have no trouble with piston to valve clearances with JE pistons.

I'm surprised at the head measuring 77cc.

I generally thought 2.4 heads were suppose to measure out at 68.1cc with some deviations. Think the earlier 69 heads for the 2.0 liter motors have slightly larger volume at 72cc.

Wondering if a machinist can modify a 2.4 head to add another 10cc to it without adversely affecting the design of the combustion chamber?

Also to note: twin plugging ADDS about 1.5-2cc.

If there has been a valve job or two the value will change after the seats are cut and the valves are a little deeper into the head.Fred
