Do Not Interchange Valve Tappets - Cylinder Head
engine: 996 911 M96.04
The service manual (and pretty much anyone) instructs to not interchange the 24 valve tappets in the cylinder heads. also not to use magnets to remove. I therefore took great care in removing and storing in egg cartons the valve tappets so I did not interchange upon assembly. marked the egg cartons 1-3 and 4-6 and included up arrows. this process was solid until I knocked the egg cartons off my shelf and now have 24 randomly scattered tappets on the floor. These tappets have 40k on them and no visible scoring and look brand new. Question: Does anyone have access to the specs on new tappets? (I assume diameter and height are the relevant specs) and are there tolerances other than no visible scoring? Dare I re-use if my valve tappets are within a certain spec? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1511895464.jpg |
We don’t know very much about your engine here, as this is primarily the air cooled crowd. You might have better luck on Rennlist forums.

[I]t may not be pure but if I couldn't find any damage from dropping or wear
I'd use them. I haven't ever bothered to measure a 996 cam but most all hydraulic lifter cam lobes are ground at a slight angle so the lifter rotates worn lifters will show the effects. If you aren't seeing that I wouldn't worry a lot about them. |
