distributor problem, shaft play
I replaced the rotor and cap on a scheduled maint about 1000 miles ago. (84 cab, 3.2) My car died the other day after stoping at the end of a freeway off ramp. When I looked under the Dissy cap, the rotor had failed, new one remember!. The backlite had crumbeled!
Some of it ended in the dissy housing, and both sprin=gs on the cent plats had broken off. and there appeared to be a fibre washer in the deribis. When putting on the new parts I notices that the shaft had a LOT of play in it. 0 rotational plar but side to side movement and up and down movement. So my questions are as follows: 1. Is the dissy toast? is that way to much play. 2 Could the failure of the rotor and the deribis have runied the fibre washer, hence the cause of the exsice play 3.Could the play have caused the rotor failure, remember, it had about 1000 miles before failure. 4. should I be looking for a new dissy. The car has 100K miles, i assume it is original Thanks

Hello
Your dizzy has a problem and needs a rebuild or just renew. But the first thing to do is checking the brass gear drive on the crank for extensive wear. Also browse the archives we had that issue some 2 years ago. Grüsse |
