Rebuilding a 69 911 2.0

When rebuilding a 2.0 flat six from 1968 with the air pump injectors, can the engine be rebuilt with out the air pump injectors? No laws in New Mexico governing smog control.

My '68 lost it's air pump years ago, without any ill effects. The engine looks much cleaner too. My understanding is it does nothing for performance, and little for emissions.

You can buy plugs for the head to fill the injector holes cleanly, but good luck getting the old injectors out without breaking them. Mine were all seized in and the injectors are very weak and broke when I tried to remove them. I had to drill and tap them, but it was fairly easy since the have a hole through the center and they are a relativly soft steel.

You can either leave the cam protruding from the chain housing cover, or cut it of and plug the hole or replace the cover. This change will also make it much easier to install the pressure fed tensioners.
