valve seals loose on guides?
 

I just got these valve seals and guides from Pelican.
Elring seals and Canyon guides.

But I can pust these seals fully on to the guide by hand, and pull it of again, is this normal?
Others I've used I had to gently tap them on.

Can you pull them off easily - slip off, or some force required. It doesn't seem to take a lot to hold them in place. Yes, when they have been on an engine for ages they fix themselves quite well. But I have torn an engine down again after a few hrs running and they pull off without too much effort. But were still in place.

Some force required I have to wiggle them of. The valve guides without the deep rigdges on top, you would have to use pliers to get them of.

Then I expect they will be fine.

You could always use a dab of Permatex hard setting on the stem

With stock guides I've always had to tap them on with a hammer and no hope to get them of without destroying them.
I would glue them on somehow. You don't want them to come lose, which can happen.

What happens if the valve guide seals come loose? The reason I ask is because my 86 Carrera has a valve guide that is somehow leaking oil into the intake valve which I cannot explain what is causing this. I can post pic's if it will help.
BTW, all other guides are dry and appear to have been replaced.

I originally inquired here on the forum and many were stumped.

It burns a lot of oil. Can't say if that is your problem but I would check that seal to see if its still on and not damaged.
It looks really clean, fresh rebuild?

I wouldn't use valve seals that weren't making good contact/seal. You'll get a ton of oil in your intake.

The PO stated that the engine was overhauled to some extent and by looks and compression/leakdown numbers, it appears so, but this leak has been bugging the
hell outta me. How can I check the seal with engine in car?

In this case, it's cylinder 5.

You could replace the valve seals and springs with the engine installed. You would need P7I and P7E tools. I have the tools if you need to borrow them. The valve seals should be very tight when installed and should not come off easily by simply pulling them by hand. If you could remove them by hand they are too loose.

Also, they bounce around and destroy themselves and you find bits in the oil... ask me how I know...

Yes they would leak oil - they are a seal that is supposed to stay in place. If they ride up with the valve then the guide/valve gap is not sealed - and plenty of oil sloshing around in there. Then as Mike D posted - they will ride up and down on the valve and probably never seat themselves again on the guide. So they will beat down on the top of the guide.
I would take Tony up on his offer of the valve spring tools. bear in mind a loose guide will have same result oil wise. Seal much easier to fix. You are lucky in as much as #5 I probably the easiest to get to of all 12.
