Last deck height question So I have the heads and put solder on the top to measure the deck height. THe solder doesn't touch the head! So presumably the deck height is measured near the EDGE of the piston? (Where I somewhat inaccurately measured with a caliper from the flat edge of the piston to the upper edge of teh cylinder....) |

Chris, if the solder doesnt touch that means you can get pistons with a higher CR :D If you really are possesed with finding the deck hieght, get some plumbers putty, and make a rope about 5/16" dia to drape over the piston crown. rotate the engine a few revs, then slice the impressed putty in half and measure.. If you passed the solder test I would just bolt it up and go, unless you really need to say you have 10.571:1 cr compared to 10.5:1 |

Tim, Well said. I talked to Andial and the reality of these pistons is that the solder trick won't work because of the shape of the dome. THe smallest gap between piston and head, where you need to measure it, isn't accessible to solder. So I went back to my original measurements that are coming within spec witht he standard shim... I'm going to start bolting them up! (WHich I believe you recently and enthusiastically advised... :) ) |
