Help: Mahle 84 MM Cylinder Condition
 

I purchased a set of 6, Mahle 84 ZD 3 cylinders for my 2.4 rebuild. They don't look good to me but I'm not an expert. The pictures below are of the worst cylinder but they are all relatively the same condition. I planned to have them honed/other but I'm concerned they are far past that.

Opinions please.

Those are the Biral cylinders, with the iron liner and aluminum fins. If those black smudges can be felt with a fingernail, they are pitted from rust, probably too deep to clean up by honing.

Yes, the smudges can be felt with a fingernail.

Typically we bore them out 1mm and get pistons made to suit the build.

I second what Burn Bros said.

85mm is the max you can bore the Birals. A set of custom 85mm pistons will run about $1000. Just tell that what cams, and CR you want. CP pistons should still have the needed info from when I had my last set made.
