Under sized crank
Any reason one would not run a crank that's been turned down? I have always used standard cranks but I have a 2.7 crank that is .25 under on the mains and .75 under on the rods. I know you can't get the rod bearings any more but I have a NOS set for both. Just curious if ther are wear issues or something with using this crank vs Std/std. it would likely go in a stock 2.7 or mildly modded motor.

No problem as long as the crank is properly heat treated again, since the regrind has removed all the surface hardness. Used to be a process called "tufftride" but EPA shut that down, now usually done as nitriding.

The problem will be the cost of the bearings
The cost, if you can find third cut, will rival the price of a standard crank. Bruce |

I already have the bearings. I just didn't know if there were issues that would make the crank wear more than usual etc. Heat treating makes sense. I will do some checking in that.
